Prakruthi celebrates International Ozone Week

The United Nations international day for the preservation of the ozone layer is celebrated on September 16th of every year and the week pertaining it is celebrated as ozone week. This event commemorates the date of signing of the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer in 1987. In view of this occasion prakruthi organized a paper presentation competition in the college. Prakruthi takes a step to reduce plastic

Plastic pollution is an evil that needs to be addressed urgently. Not only is it killing environment, but the toxins could also enter our body through food and water in the form of micro plastic. We here at prakruthi in a bid to address this issue decided to phase out plastic bags pollution from the campus in a systematic manner. In the discussions made by the student members it was decided that the cleaning should be started from the college canteen first and replacing plastic bags with paper bags was advised to be the best possible solution at our disposal. So, an initiative was taken and all the student members made paper bags with their hands with old newspapers obtained from central library of Lakireddy Bali Reddy College of Engineering. The paper bags thus made were handed over to the canteen incharge and requested to phase out the plastic bags from canteen slowly.

Beat Plastic Pollution, An Expert Talk organised by Prakruthi in association with IEEE LBRCE

 The Prakruthi, The environmental club of LBRCE and IEEE LBRCE of the institute jointly organised an Expert talk on “Beat Plastic Pollution” by Sri. V.Kiran Kumar , Director & Head, CIPET & Centre for Skilling and Technical Support(CSTS)-Vijayawada, for II year B.Tech students of the institute on 18-07-2018, 2.00pm to 4.00pm, in Lotus Hall.  LBRCE IEEE Student Branch Counsellor, Dr.M.Umavani welcomed the resource persons and students. In her welcome message she said while plastic has many advantages, we have become over reliant on single-use or disposable plastic which have severe environmental consequences. Around the world, 1 million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute. Every year we use up to 5 trillion disposable plastic bags. In total, 50 per cent of the plastic we use is single use.
